What Do the Different Lightsaber Colors Mean in Star Wars?

Who can forget the moment when Samuel L. Jackson, as Jedi Master Mace Windu, wielded a purple lightsaber in Episode II? Fans worldwide were thrilled by the introduction of a brand-new color. Or when Kylo Ren's cross-guard red lightsaber made us all sit up and pay attention?

For diehard Star Wars fans, lightsaber colors are an essential part of the universe that Lucas and others have crafted. Each color holds a unique meaning and reflects important traits of its user.

Where Do Lightsaber Colors Come From?

Lightsaber colors are determined by the Kyber crystal at the saber’s core. These rare crystals influence the color of the blade, reflecting the user’s personality, fighting style, and moral choices. The only exception is the color red, which is created with synthetic crystals. This is why so many Sith wield red lightsabers. All other Kyber crystals are found naturally.
