If you’re a Star Wars fan, especially a Kylo Ren enthusiast, this news will surely grab your attention! Marvel Comics is set to launch a new series titled Star Wars: Legacy of Vader. Written by Charles Soule, a familiar name in the Star Wars universe, this series promises to delve deeper into the complex character of Ben Solo and his complicated relationship with Darth Vader.
But why Kylo Ren? And what does Vader’s legacy have to do with it? Sit back, because Soule has revealed all the details in an interview with IGN.
If you’ve read the 2020 miniseries The Rise of Kylo Ren, you might remember that Charles Soule had already explored Ben Solo’s transformation into Kylo Ren. Yet, that story felt like just the beginning. Now, with Legacy of Vader, Soule is returning to this character, picking up right after the events of The Last Jedi.
Soule shared:
“After everything he’s experienced in such a short time – facing Luke, killing Snoke, his father, nearly his mother, and taking control of the First Order – Kylo is an emotionally charged character. And that’s exactly the kind of character a writer dreams of exploring.”
In short, Kylo Ren is a volcano on the verge of erupting, and Legacy of Vader will take us straight into his mind.
The series opens with a scene that immediately sets the tone: Kylo Ren arrives on Mustafar to visit the fortress once occupied by Darth Vader. It’s a symbolic and powerful moment because Mustafar is not just a location; it’s a piece of the past Kylo is desperately trying to destroy—or perhaps understand.
Soule explained that the conflict between Ben Solo and Kylo Ren will be at the heart of the series:
“Kylo says he wants to kill the past, but part of him is searching for guidance. His relationship with Vader is full of contradictions: he admires him, but at the same time, he’s obsessed and almost intimidated by him.”
In essence, Kylo is a lost soul, torn between who he is and who he wants to be. And that makes him even more fascinating.
Of course, we can’t talk about Kylo Ren without mentioning the First Order. Soule has promised that political and military dynamics will play a significant role in the story. We’ll see characters like Hux and Pryde, and we’ll gain a better understanding of how Kylo uses the First Order to achieve his goals.
But don’t worry: at the center of it all will still be Kylo Ren, with his inner turmoil and his quest to establish himself as the ultimate leader.
Sure, Legacy of Vader will be a journey into Kylo Ren’s psyche, but that doesn’t mean action will be missing. Soule is keen to highlight that we’ll see Kylo in all his glory: a dark space wizard with a lightsaber, ready to unleash chaos whenever necessary.
“Kylo Ren is a complex character, but he’s also incredibly powerful. There’s plenty of angst and drama, but we haven’t forgotten about the action. Fans won’t be disappointed.”
To bring this story to life, Soule has teamed up with artist Luke Ross and colorist Nolan Woodard, two names well-known to Star Wars fans.
“Luke has perfectly captured Kylo Ren’s turmoil and cold, unpredictable rage,” said Soule. “Every panel is a masterpiece.”
The first issue of Legacy of Vader will debut in the United States on February 5, 2025.
